About the position

The DES Technical Writer at GC Associates is responsible for developing, editing, and maintaining documentation related to the Disability Evaluation System (DES) processes and policies for the Defense Health Agency. This role requires strong writing and analytical skills to translate complex information into clear, actionable documents, ensuring compliance with Department of Defense (DoD) standards.

Responsibilities

  • Draft and update various high-level Department of Defense (DoD) documents, including DES-related documents and DoD issuances.
  • Review and edit high-level documentation prepared by colleagues for clarity, accuracy, and compliance with DoD standards.
  • Collaborate with various functional area teams and subject matter experts to gather information and ensure technical accuracy in documentation.
  • Conduct thorough research to understand complex topics and translate them into readable content.
  • Identify areas for documentation improvement and implement best practices in technical writing.
  • Gather feedback from DoD Customers to refine documents and ensure they meet the needs of the Customer and organization.
  • Ensure documentation adheres to established DoD guidelines and maintains consistency across all spectrums.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in English, Technical Communication, Business Administration, or a related field
  • 10+ years of experience in technical writing and documentation review, preferably in a DoD or military environment
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with a focus on clarity and precision
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for collaboration with Program Management and other stakeholders
  • Strong ability to gather information from various sources, including subject matter experts and technical documentation
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail in all documentation
  • Ability to manage multiple documentation projects, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines
  • Thorough knowledge of technical concepts relevant to DoD written guidance
  • Knowledge of the DES program from the DoD and/or Military Service level
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word and Excel)
