About the position

The Design Associate will play a crucial role in a school district modernization program, focusing on architectural design and planning. This position involves determining space needs, creating architectural designs, and preparing necessary documentation for building alterations and installations. The role requires collaboration with various stakeholders and adherence to building codes and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Determine space needs based on operational requirements and long-range planning.
  • Participate in the administration of the restacking plan, reviewing documents and responding to Requests for Clarifications.
  • Create scope of work and develop architectural design options using CAD and 3D software for presentation and approval.
  • Prepare drawings, specifications, and estimates for building alterations and equipment installations.
  • Conduct field surveys and research related to planning and design development.
  • Prepare applications for approvals from various agencies.
  • Create design packets and reports for executive staff.
  • Prepare complex architectural drawings and construction details for alterations and improvements.
  • Provide code analysis as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • A minimum of five (5) years' full-time paid professional experience in a large commercial, public agency, or school facilities.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and at least one 3D design software (e.g., SketchUp).
  • Experience in architectural design, coordinating drafting, conducting surveys, and reviewing vendor drawings.
  • Ability to analyze architectural problems and recommend solutions for office space utilization and equipment optimization.
  • Knowledge of California Department of Education, American Disability Act, and various building codes.
