About the position

The Design Director for Retail Design at Nike will lead and develop seasonal retail campaigns and experiences for the North America retail ecosystem. This role requires a strategic, collaborative, and creative team leader who will create impactful design solutions for immersive retail environments, enhancing the consumer retail experience while reflecting Nike's brand standards. The position involves managing a team, ideating creative concepts, and working across multiple projects to deliver innovative and immersive concepts and experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Support and partner with the Sr. Creative Director to lead seasonal and long-term vision, strategic and tactical direction, and design continuity.
  • Manage functional design professionals, coaching and crafting opportunities for individual development.
  • Lead a design process focusing on strategy and exploration of color, materiality, texture, spacing, proportion, scale, and use of the environment.
  • Develop presentation materials to effectively communicate creative strategy and design concepts to leadership and partners.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to ensure project goals align with Nike retail brand and business strategies.
  • Constantly seek innovative ways to tell stories through various mediums such as graphics, styling, lighting, and video.
  • Drive education and inspiration, sharing knowledge of current and future trends influencing consumer experiences and technology.
  • Ensure results, timelines, and budgets are met.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 10+ years of progressive design experience in architectural, experiential, or brand design.
  • At least 3+ years of management experience.
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in graphic design, architecture, industrial design, environmental design, or related field.
  • Expertise in design skills including concepting, ideation, typography, color theory, and spatial design.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to present concepts to various audiences.
  • Proven ability to manage ambiguity and motivate teams.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with motion graphics and video-editing is a plus.
