About the position

Valmont is currently seeking a highly motivated and talented individual for the Design Drafter Co-op Intern position in the Global Utility Division. This internship is designed for individuals who are eager to learn and contribute to the goals of the Drafting team while gaining valuable experience from some of the finest engineers in the industry. As a Design Drafter Co-op Intern, you will have the opportunity to engage in hands-on learning experiences through project work, leadership development, job shadowing, and interaction with senior leadership. This position is set to begin at the start of summer 2025, with full-time hours throughout the summer and part-time hours during the school year. In this role, you will be responsible for determining changes, corrections, and requirements to meet project demands. You will create sketches for use by other designers and drafters, interpret specifications and standards, and provide information to ensure that customer requirements are met or improved. Effective communication with customers, both oral and written, is essential to resolve specification questions in preparation for drawings. Additionally, you will provide assistance and input on a project basis to other team members in the development of shop drawings, and perform other essential functions as directed. Responsibilities

  • Determines changes, corrections, and requirements to meet project demands
  • Makes sketches for use by other designers/drafters
  • Interprets specifications and standards and provides information to others to ensure that customer requirements are met or improved
  • Communicates with customers, both oral and written, to resolve specification questions in preparation of drawings
  • Provides assistance and input on a project basis to other team members in the development of shop drawings
  • Performs other essential functions as directed

Requirements

  • CAD skills including design applications and an ability to convert drawings to 3D models
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint applications
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Demonstrates problem-solving/critical thinking skills
  • Enrolled in an accredited college or university and actively pursuing a degree in Drafting & Design
