About the position

Precision Industrial Contractors, Inc. is seeking a full-time Design Drafter to join our team in Woodland, WA. This position is crucial for creating and designing shop and field drawings, as well as structures and fabricated parts for both new and existing products, facilities, and equipment. The successful candidate will be responsible for producing assembly drawings, shop drawings, and layouts that reflect a strong consideration for function, cost, manufacturability, and quality. The Design Drafter will work closely with 2D and 3D models or blueprints to generate models, flat patterns, and parts suitable for laser and water jet cutting, as well as press brake machines. The role requires frequent interaction with various departments, including manufacturing, mechanical design, sales, and management personnel. The Design Drafter will utilize AutoCAD and Inventor software to create detailed shop and field drawings, ensuring that all designs meet the necessary specifications and standards. Additionally, the position involves programming parts for water jet cutting using optimization nesting software, soliciting feedback from production personnel, and troubleshooting any production issues related to part design criteria. The Design Drafter will also be responsible for maintaining and updating product design criteria, providing technical support to sales and manufacturing teams, and researching new construction methods for ongoing product improvement. Training personnel in product designs and assisting in standardizing selection criteria for parts are also key responsibilities. The ability to work independently on multiple drawing projects while maintaining good documentation and organization is essential for success in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Create and design shop and field drawings for structures and fabricated parts.
  • Provide assembly drawings, shop drawings, and layouts with a focus on function, cost, manufacturability, and quality.
  • Generate models, flat patterns, and parts for laser/water jet cutting and press brake machines from 2D and 3D models or blueprints.
  • Use AutoCAD and Inventor software to produce detailed shop and field drawings.
  • Program parts for water jet cutting using optimization nesting software.
  • Solicit feedback from production personnel and troubleshoot production problems related to part design criteria.
  • Maintain and update product design criteria as necessary.
  • Provide feedback to sales and submittal departments regarding design criteria.
  • Provide technical support to sales, submittals, and manufacturing as required.
  • Research new and improved construction methods for continued product improvement.
  • Train personnel in product designs as required.
  • Assist in standardizing selection criteria for parts.
  • Maintain drawing system integrity in the product data management system.
  • Work independently to complete groups of drawing projects with good documentation and organization.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of 2D and 3D engineering standards.
  • 3D mechanical/design drafting experience.
  • Experience working in a production environment.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen.
  • Associates Degree in Drafting Technology or Mechanical Engineering preferred, or High School Diploma/GED with vocational training in CAD.
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant mechanical/structural drafting experience.
  • Proficient PC skills and ability to learn new software applications.
  • Strong attention to detail with capability of self-checking work for accuracy.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, good reasoning and problem-solving skills.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to manage time, flex with workflow demands, and prioritize work.
  • Ability to read and interpret manufacturing blueprints and specifications.
