About the position

The Design Engineer II will provide engineering expertise, creativity, innovation and technical guidance on a product development team within GIW Industries, Inc. (a KSB Company). In this role you will be the acting experienced centrifugal slurry pump designer supporting the design of new product ranges, custom engineered to order products and modifications to existing product lines, under the supervision of an engineering manager. To be successful as a Design Engineer II you should have advanced technical problem-solving and evaluation abilities, be familiar with pump specific design and manufacturing philosophies as well as have knowledge of the GIW product line. You will be an excellent communicator and work well with others in a design team and the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Creating new product design concepts and develop into finished drawings and bill of materials
  • Performing specialized mechanical pump design calculations, material selection, FEA/stress analyses and wear analyses
  • Working with individuals across multiple groups to identify and solve complex problems
  • Having hands-on technical support for the manufacture, assembly, and testing of pumps on-site
  • Partnering with technical service engineers/ end users by phone, email and video conference to support and improve pump installations
  • Serving as a liaison with suppliers, sales engineers, and project/ product managers to develop new solutions
  • Integrating company objectives into one's own work by having a detailed understanding of the GIW workflow, product platforms, and processes
  • Assisting with creating engineering documentation, manuals, specifications, design guides, procedures, reports, reference materials and publications for use by customers and throughout the company
  • Developing and maintaining the Engineering Database and PLM data (SAP)
  • Providing engineering evaluation (form, fit, and function) and disposition of non-conforming parts in production (accept/scrap/rework decisions with monetary impact)
  • Ensuring reliability of downstream processes by generating high-quality and error-free designs for both internal and external production as well as use by the final customer
  • Be able to work across multiple engineering design teams to support complex design initiatives, provide training, and develop workflows

Requirements

  • A Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering and Two years of experience in pump design or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Be able to obtain EIT within one year of hire
  • Proven experience with professional communication on technical matters relating to pump design and manufacturing
  • An ability to give clear and concise instructions to mentees and peers alike
  • Travel (domestic and international) as required for field support, training and research, up to 10%.
