About the position

The position involves the development of Wiring Harness components using 3D CAD systems, specifically CATIA V5. The role requires collaboration with various teams, including Wiring Harness engineers, Procurement, Validation, and QA departments, as well as external suppliers. The candidate will be responsible for creating and checking 2D drawings, maintaining development schedules, and ensuring project milestones are met. This hybrid role allows for both in-office and off-site work, with a requirement to be in the office at least two days a week.

Responsibilities

  • Develop Wiring Harness components using 3D CAD systems (CATIA V5).
  • Release 2D drawings of components for quotation and tooling kick-offs.
  • Conduct ongoing packing studies to analyze vehicle fit and maintain required clearances.
  • Create and check 2D drawings for developed parts according to SEWS and customer standards.
  • Act as program lead when assigned and maintain development schedules according to customer project timing.
  • Work with Wiring Harness engineers to assess component needs and update designs throughout the vehicle maturation process.
  • Request quotes via the Procurement team and assist in supplier selection.
  • Resolve design or quality issues with developed components from tooling kickoff until mass production launch.
  • Facilitate tooling quotations and tool design sign-off with engineers or the Japanese parent company.
  • Create and check DFMEA and DVP&R documents for developed parts.
  • Prepare test samples and coordinate testing of components as required.

Requirements

  • BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar.
  • 6+ years experience with 3D CAD systems (CATIA V5) is required.
  • Experience in the development of injection-molded parts is preferred.
  • Ability to perform other engineering functions in addition to 3D CAD design.
  • Bilingual (English/Japanese) capability is helpful for liaison work with the Japanese parent company.
  • Willingness to travel for trial events and supplier audits.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with automotive industry standards and practices.
  • Familiarity with electrical distribution systems and components.
