About the position

The Design Engineer III will be responsible for applying engineering principles to solve technical problems related to hydraulic valves and mechanisms. This role involves collaboration with various business units to address design challenges and enhance technical skills through project involvement. The engineer will perform analyses, create designs, and interact with customers to ensure compliance with specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Perform engineering analysis (stress, FEA, fatigue) to support new product development and sustaining production.
  • Create and review new designs for conformance to customer requirements and engineering principles.
  • Apply and optimize Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) for inspection and manufacturing.
  • Write test plans and reports to demonstrate compliance with customer specifications.
  • Interact with customers to clarify design intent and technical requirements.
  • Maintain accurate project records, including design and test data.
  • Develop technical proposals, cost estimates, and schedules for engineering activities.
  • Direct fellow engineers and designers in design concepts and optimization.
  • Provide direction on development and qualification test programs.
  • Serve as engineering representative on the Material Review Board (MRB) for non-conforming products.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Aerospace Engineering, or related field with at least 5 years related work experience.
  • Proficiency in stress analysis (FEA), tolerance analysis, GD&T, fatigue analysis, and material & process control.
  • Working knowledge of 3D modeling software (Pro/Engineer or CREO preferred).
  • Excellent writing, presentation, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent MS Office skills.
  • Proficiency in Mathcad, MATLAB, and LabVIEW software.
  • Familiarity with electronic or hydraulic control system design.
  • Ability to investigate, diagnose, and resolve complex technical problems.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field with at least 7 years related work experience.
  • Experience in hydraulic component design and/or manufacture & test.
  • Exposure to metal forming and manufacturing methods.
  • Mechanical aptitude through personal hobbies/projects.
  • Proficiency in DMAIC (or equivalent) problem-solving methodology.
