About the position

The Design Engineer for IndyCar will be responsible for completing design and project work as specified by the Senior Technical Staff. This role involves overseeing projects for a small team, ensuring that project release deadlines are met, and maintaining high standards of operational performance and efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Ensuring the projects goals are met from operational, performance, and efficiency standpoints as well as preventing any packaging issues.
  • Creating and facilitating procedures to ensure that all issued drawings are 100% complete, error-free, and all tolerances are appropriate for the application.
  • Reviewing project details, issues, and concerns with the Engineering Group during scheduled design reviews.
  • Ensure all projects are properly documented as required.
  • Working with other engineers as a team and provide guidance on design and analysis.
  • Attending the engineering meeting as necessary.
  • Attend race or test events as needed not a full-time traveling position.
  • Documenting and reporting results and processes for projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or Engineering Technology (case by case basis).
  • 4+ years experience in design work.
  • Experience with PTC Suite, including Creo and Windchill.
  • Motorsports related design experience is highly desirable.
  • Experience in design of highly loaded mechanical systems and components (suspension, chassis, steering systems).
  • Knowledge of FEA backed up with hand calculations and practical FEA application.
  • Material selections based on component operating conditions and manufacturing considerations.
  • Familiarity with modern, low-volume manufacturing methods (hand fabrication, machining, casting, EDM, composites, rapid prototyping).
  • Basic knowledge of vehicle dynamics.
  • Understanding of fluid systems, dampers and/or damper design.
  • Composite design and surfacing skills.
  • Use of rapid prototype and scanning equipment.
  • Understanding of Faro Arm or other measurement equipment.

Nice-to-haves

  • 4+ years of motorsports experience.
