About the position

The Design Engineer position at CSX involves developing designs and estimates for various infrastructure and capital projects aimed at ensuring a safe, maintainable, and reliable railroad system. The role requires collaboration with multiple departments and consultants to create detailed project plans and cost estimates, while adhering to safety and engineering standards.

Responsibilities

• Develop preliminary and detailed designs for CSX Infrastructure projects in collaboration with the Project Manager and Project Sponsor.
• Coordinate with various CSX departments to create an overall construction and service plan for infrastructure projects.
• Prepare project estimates and Authority For Expenditure (AFE) documents for review.
• Evaluate new signal and track equipment to ensure compliance with CSX Safety and Standard Policies.
• Review invoices and contractor expenses related to infrastructure projects and recommend approval or rejection to the Project Manager.
• Attend Quarterly Quality Reviews with General Engineering Consultant (GEC) and Signal Engineering Consultant (SEC).
• Participate in Engineering Department Safety Initiatives, including Monthly Safety Overlap Meetings and safety incident reviews.
• Perform miscellaneous activities and responsibilities as assigned by the manager.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field with 3 or more years of experience in civil, structural, electrical, electronic, or mechanical engineering.
• Alternatively, an Associate's Degree with 5 or more years of relevant engineering experience.

Nice-to-haves

• Professional Engineer (PE) certification.
• 5 or more years of experience in Engineering (civil, structural, electrical, electronic, or mechanical).
