About the position

Our client is seeking an experienced and tenured New Product Development Engineer to fill the role of Engineering Standards and Validation Manager. This position requires a candidate with 8-10 years of management experience who will lead efforts to standardize technical processes and procedures to optimize engineering activities. The Engineering Standards and Validation Manager will oversee the ESV Team, focusing on reviewing and optimizing productivity while ensuring product compliance with technical guidelines for design and manufacturing. The primary responsibilities include setting standards for the engineering department, developing tools and automation, and creating engineering training programs to provide the highest level of technical support to the company and its customers. The manager will be responsible for managing daily departmental activities, assigning resources to support business needs, and determining project validity and priority to ensure that high-yield projects are prioritized and completed in a timely manner. Collaboration with Applications and Design Engineering managers is essential to identify optimization opportunities. The manager will also develop and maintain systems that enhance throughput efficiencies by focusing on tools that align with selection and manufacturing best practices, as well as automating product selection and design processes. Ensuring that in-production products meet all technical specifications, both domestically and globally, is a critical aspect of this role. Additionally, the manager will lead a cross-functional team to develop a strategic cost-down plan to support internal profit goals and implement best practices for executing Root Failure Analysis, Root Cause, and Corrective Actions for product or process failures. The role also involves managing and documenting in-production products, product features, options, and accessories, as well as controlling and developing all technical standards and resources. The Engineering Standards and Validation Manager will support Quality and Manufacturing efforts to resolve order fulfillment problems and meet shipment commitments, while collaborating with Product Management and Marketing as the primary engineering expert on in-production product strategies and campaigns. This position serves as a key engineering interface with the parent company and other Group companies on all in-production products, and requires proactive partnership with Operations and Manufacturing teams to ensure adherence to product quality standards. Maintaining team KPIs and metrics that align with company goals is also a vital responsibility.

Responsibilities

  • Manage daily activities of the engineering department and assign resources as necessary to support the business.
  • Determine project validity and priority to ensure highest yield projects are prioritized and completed timely.
  • Collaborate with Applications and Design Engineering managers to identify optimization opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain systems that optimize SMA 'Front-end' throughput efficiencies by focusing on tools that align with selection and manufacturing best practices.
  • Ensure that in-production products meet and adhere to all technical specifications both domestically and globally.
  • Lead a cross-functional team to develop a strategic cost-down plan aimed at supporting internal profit goals.
  • Support the implementation of best practice techniques to execute Root Failure Analysis, Root Cause, and Corrective Actions for product or process failures.
  • Manage and document in-production products, product features, options, and accessories.
  • Control, manage, and develop all technical standards, resources, and information.
  • Support Quality and Manufacturing efforts to resolve order fulfillment problems and meet shipment commitments.
  • Collaborate with Product Management and Marketing as the primary engineering expert on in-production product strategies and campaigns.
  • Serve as key engineering interface with parent company and other Group companies on all in-production products.
  • Proactively partner with Operations and Manufacturing teams to ensure product quality adherence.
  • Maintain team KPIs and metrics that align with and are applicable to company goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering required.
  • Ten (10) years of Product Engineering or Product Development experience.
  • Knowledge of Lean Six Sigma best practices; Green Belt Level Preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of motors, brake-motors, motor standards such as UL, MG1, CSA, and motor design and manufacture is required.
  • Knowledge of other rotating equipment, such as gearboxes, is preferred.
  • Previous managerial experience required.
  • Strong working knowledge in Project Management Body of Knowledge; PMP Certification Preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in automotive manufacturing (5 years preferred).
