About the position

The Design Engineering Manager at Amphenol IPC is responsible for leading a team within the Engineering Department, focusing on the design and development of DC electrical interconnects such as bus bars and power lugs. This role involves strategic oversight of design initiatives, managing customer inquiries, and ensuring high-quality engineering outputs while fostering a collaborative team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Manage, mentor, and develop a high-performing engineering team.
  • Act as the primary point of escalation for customer concerns and issues.
  • Collaborate with Sales and Customers to define product requirements and ensure alignment with technical capabilities.
  • Provide expert technical guidance during the development phase of new design projects.
  • Work closely with Manufacturing Engineering to identify necessary methods and tooling for new products.
  • Drive ongoing support for Manufacturing on assigned product lines and champion process enhancements.
  • Lead the creation of qualification test requirements for power busbar products.
  • Collaborate with Quality Assurance to define and implement reliability requirements for busbar products.
  • Ensure the development of comprehensive engineering documentation to support assigned product lines.
  • Assist Purchasing with technical communications and build strong relationships with suppliers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or Electrical Engineering Technology.
  • 10 years in engineering roles with extensive experience managing and leading teams in the design and manufacture of power busbars and related interconnect components.
  • Proven track record of successfully overseeing complex design initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of integrating design solutions into qualification tests and reliability parameters.
  • Familiarity with sheet metal fabrication and manufacturing processes.
  • Proficient in SolidWorks or similar CAD software, along with analytical/modeling/simulation tools.
  • Excellent communication, diplomacy, and problem-solving skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) per ANSI standards.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in engaging with suppliers and effectively addressing design concerns.
  • Familiarity with agency certification requirements.
