About the position

The Engineering Manager at Atkinson Construction will oversee engineering design services for temporary structures related to construction projects, primarily in Washington and California. This role involves analyzing existing structures, designing temporary supports, and ensuring that projects are delivered on budget and on schedule while maintaining compliance with program standards. The Engineering Manager will also participate in client meetings, support project teams, and contribute to the training and development of staff members.

Responsibilities

  • Perform analysis on existing structures and design temporary supports, falsework, and access systems for bridge construction and heavy civil projects.
  • Prepare design drawings, calculations, and reports for project use and estimating.
  • Participate in the estimating process for projects.
  • Engage in meetings with clients and project team members to ensure project alignment.
  • Maintain strong relationships with project teams through effective interpersonal skills.
  • Stay updated with industry practices and integrate innovation and technology into designs.
  • Assist in the training and development of junior staff members.
  • Occasional travel to provide onsite project support.
  • Ensure successful delivery of designs that meet budget, schedule, and compliance standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Civil Engineering with a focus on Structural Engineering.
  • 2 to 5 years of experience in temporary structures design and/or construction of bridges.
  • P.E. license in Washington and/or California.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Solid organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Experience using current design codes like AASHTO, AISC, and ACI.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD.

  • Clear understanding of integrated design and construction schedules.
  • Ability to lead a collaborative design process with various stakeholders.
