About the position

The Design Engineering Manager at Atkinson Construction is responsible for providing engineering design services for temporary structures in construction projects, primarily in Washington and California. This role involves analyzing existing structures, preparing design documentation, participating in estimating processes, and maintaining strong relationships with project teams and clients. The manager will also assist in training staff and ensure that designs are delivered on budget and on schedule while integrating innovation and technology into the design process.

Responsibilities

  • Perform analysis on existing structures and design temporary supports, falsework, and access systems for bridge construction and heavy civil projects.
  • Prepare design drawings, calculations, and reports for project use and estimating.
  • Participate in the estimating process for projects.
  • Engage in meetings with clients and project team members to discuss project requirements and updates.
  • Maintain good relationships with project teams using strong interpersonal skills.
  • Stay updated with the state of practice and integrate innovation and technology in design.
  • Assist in the training and development of other staff members.
  • Provide occasional onsite project support through travel.
  • Ensure successful delivery of designs that are on budget, on schedule, and compliant with program standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Civil Engineering with a focus on Structural Engineering.
  • 2 to 5 years of experience in temporary structures design and/or construction of bridges.
  • P.E. license in Washington and/or California.
  • Strong communication skills (both written and verbal) and ability to work in a team environment.
  • Solid organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Experience using current design codes like AASHTO, AISC, and ACI.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD.
