About the position

The Design Manager 1 is responsible for the successful delivery of projects by coordinating various design teams and ensuring that all project components are effectively managed and executed. This role involves proactive management of the design process, ensuring that all documents are coordinated and aligned with project goals, while also supporting the strategic vision and values of JE Dunn.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate design teams, OSP detailing team, fabrication team, and trade partners for project delivery.
  • Create or coordinate conceptual plans, elevations, and 3D models based on project needs.
  • Influence design to facilitate production in a facility using automated equipment.
  • Monitor design schedules, quality control, and content for design document delivery.
  • Ensure project budget compliance and manage design accordingly.
  • Review bridging documents for project compliance with RFP and technical requirements.
  • Support early phase due diligence activities with clients and stakeholders.
  • Develop sketches and plans for preconstruction pricing of conceptual ideas.
  • Manage internal and external design team partners to meet technical and schedule requirements.
  • Oversee the design review process to ensure schedules are met and identify project risks.
  • Coordinate design document packaging strategies with the project team.
  • Review submittal and fabrication drawings for quality control.
  • Manage project documentation using 3D and 2D file management systems.
  • Generate cost-saving strategies and value-added solutions during the design phase.
  • Monitor design partner's costs against project completion percentages.
  • Assist with change management and evaluate requests for additional services.
  • Provide technical design guidance throughout the design and construction process.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in architecture, engineering, or related field (Preferred).
  • 5+ years design and/or construction management experience (Preferred).
  • 3+ years experience as a Project Architect or Project Manager (Preferred).
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and/or Google SketchUp.
  • Strong understanding of U.S. building design codes and material specific standards.
  • Ability to apply Lean process and philosophy (Intermediate).
  • Experience with linked design disciplines such as Geotechnical/Civil, Architecture, Structural, MEP, etc.
  • Ability to manage budget and schedule effectively.

Nice-to-haves

  • Cross-functional knowledge of key engineering disciplines (Architectural, Structural, MEP) and relevant trades.
  • Strong understanding of modeling software to collaborate with drafters.
