About the position

As a Design Manager-Hospitality at Gensler, you will play a pivotal role in leading and delivering a diverse range of project types and sizes through all phases of the design process. You will be part of a dynamic team of design thinkers and doers, dedicated to crafting compelling stories and experiences through design. In this position, you will serve as the primary point of contact for clients, leveraging your extensive knowledge of the design and delivery process to ensure the highest levels of client satisfaction. Additionally, you will mentor junior staff, fostering their growth and encouraging excellence in design and service delivery. Your responsibilities will include developing and nurturing positive relationships with existing client contacts, optimizing opportunities for further engagement. You will maintain a keen awareness of clients' business objectives, plans, target audiences, and market trends, ensuring that you identify appropriate opportunities to generate demand for Gensler's services. You will oversee the day-to-day delivery of projects, ensuring they are completed on time and within budget, while leading and facilitating the cross-functional project team. You will focus on the smooth management of the project process, ensuring clarity of requirements, deliverables, timelines, and visibility against fees throughout the project lifecycle. This includes preparing, communicating, and monitoring project work plans, budgets, and deliverables for both client and internal teams. You will also be responsible for preparing and reviewing proposals, contracts, and consultant agreements, managing multiple aspects of client, team, and project coordination, and ensuring full documentation coordination with various consultants. In addition to project management, you will actively take ownership of problems and develop successful resolution plans in consultation with Practice Area leadership, the Studio Director, and the Principal-in-Charge. You will support new business development efforts with both current and potential clients and contribute positively to project reports and staffing meetings, providing concise and accurate information to improve the studio's delivery and financial objectives. Your role will also involve reviewing internal project accounting documents and processing draft project billing, as well as collaborating with the Design Director and marketing team to document the project story and arrange necessary photography or videography.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Design Management and Project Management experience required.
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Architecture required.
  • 10+ years of industry experience, including hospitality projects (entertainment, food and beverage experience, and residential desirable).
  • Licensed Architect.
  • Experience in delivering projects on major hotel brand standards including upscale, upper upscale, and luxury brands.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Knowledge and experience in all phases of architecture projects.
  • Proven ability to provide excellent client service and account leadership.
  • Proactive and adaptable with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong programming and space planning skills.
  • Proficiency in Revit preferred.
  • Experience managing consultant teams and resolving complex technical and design issues.

Nice-to-haves
