About the position

The Designer position at Pape-Dawson Engineers is a full-time role focused on providing essential design support for both commercial and residential land development projects. The successful candidate will work closely with engineers to create detailed plans and drawings using AutoCAD Civil 3D. This role requires a strong understanding of civil design principles and the ability to translate sketches and red-lines into comprehensive construction documents. The Designer will be responsible for developing documents that illustrate topographical contours, elevations, profiles, and cross-sections, ensuring that all designs adhere to established company standards for drafting. In this position, the Designer will analyze various input materials, including sketches and notes, to determine the most effective approach for completing drawings with minimal supervision. Communication with Project Managers is crucial, as the Designer will need to inform them of progress on assigned projects and request additional work as necessary. Maintaining an organized workspace is essential to facilitate access to project information for other team members. Flexibility in work assignments and the ability to adapt to changing project needs are key components of this role, as the Designer may be required to shift focus on short notice based on project demands.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare plans, profiles, and detail drawings in AutoCAD Civil 3D from detailed sketches or red-lines.
  • Develop construction documents showing topographical contours, elevations, profiles, and cross-sections.
  • Create draft design engineering drawings according to established company standards.
  • Handle AutoCAD transfers efficiently.
  • Analyze sketches, notes, and other input materials to determine the best approach for developing drawings.
  • Inform Project Manager(s) of progress on assigned projects and request additional work when needed.
  • Maintain an organized work area to allow access to project information by other team members.
  • Be flexible in work assignments and team assignments as project needs change.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree in Computer-Aided Drafting and Design from an accredited institution of higher education.
  • Experience in civil design for residential/commercial/site projects in the Central Texas area.
  • Extremely proficient in AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for interaction with colleagues, clients, and public agency officials.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work interdependently within a team environment.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changes in work assignments on short notice.
