About the position

This position is responsible for providing design support to engineers for commercial/site and residential land development projects. The role involves working from detailed sketches or red-lines to prepare plans, profiles, and detail drawings using AutoCAD Civil 3D. The successful candidate will develop construction documents that illustrate topographical contours, elevations, profiles, and cross-sections, as well as draft design engineering drawings. It is essential to understand and utilize established company standards for drafting, which include layer names, line and character styles, and file naming conventions for sheet layouts. The position requires handling AutoCAD transfers and analyzing sketches, notes, and other input materials to determine the best approach for developing and completing drawings with minimal supervision. The individual will be expected to inform Project Manager(s) of progress on assigned projects and request additional work when needed. Maintaining an organized work area is crucial to allow access to project information by other team members. Flexibility in work assignments and team assignments is also a key aspect of this role, as project needs may change on short notice.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare plans, profiles, and detail drawings in AutoCAD Civil 3D from detailed sketches or red-lines.
  • Develop construction documents showing topographical contours, elevations, profiles, and cross-sections.
  • Create draft design engineering drawings according to established company standards.
  • Handle AutoCAD transfers efficiently.
  • Analyze sketches, notes, and other input materials to determine the best approach for developing drawings.

Requirements

  • Associates Degree in Computer-Aided Drafting and Design from an accredited institution of higher education.
  • 7 years' experience in civil design for residential/commercial/site projects in the Central Texas area.
  • Extremely proficient in AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for interaction with colleagues, clients, and public agency officials.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work interdependently within a team environment.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changes in work assignments on short notice.
  • Ability to work from 8 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday, with occasional overtime.
