About the position

The Designer Sr position at American Electric Power (AEP) involves performing computer-aided drafting and engineering-related drawing tasks under general supervision. The role includes creating and maintaining engineering drawings, supporting documentation, and ensuring compliance with safety and corporate policies. The position requires collaboration with various departments to ensure efficient work processes and may involve training other employees.

Responsibilities

• Create, revise and maintain engineering and record drawings, and sketches.
• Support the creation, revision, and maintenance of facilities and equipment documents.
• Obtain information required to perform work from various sources including verbal communication and technical manuals.
• Perform mathematical calculations required to accomplish assigned work.
• Demonstrate proficiency in computer-aided design software and Microsoft Office software.
• Coordinate work with other organizations within the company to ensure safety and efficiency.
• Read and incorporate information from vendors' prints and equipment operating instructions into work.
• Assist in training AEP employees in basic skills of the position.
• Promote and support the Company's Accident Prevention and Safety and Health programs.
• Support the AEP Corporate Compliance policies.
• Assume other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

• Associate degree in applied science (AAS) in drafting and computer aided design (CAD) or in civil, electrical or mechanical engineering technology, with one to two (1-2) years of relevant equivalent experience.
• High school graduate with six (6) years of experience in electric utility and/or related industrial drafting and/or computer aided drafting work if no AAS degree is held.
• For Designer Sr: Associate degree in applied science (AAS) in drafting and CAD or in civil, electrical or mechanical engineering technology and four (4) years of equivalent experience.
• For Designer Sr: High school graduate with eight (8) years of experience in electric utility and/or related industrial drafting and/or computer aided drafting work if no AAS degree is held.

Nice-to-haves

• Familiarity with conventional drafting symbols and methods.
• Ability to distinguish colors.
