About the position

The Designer/Drafter 3/4 position at Los Alamos National Laboratory involves working within the Plutonium Facilities Engineering Division to assess, maintain, and upgrade facility systems. The role requires creating detailed designs, evaluating existing conditions, and producing design recommendations. The selected candidate will also lead and mentor junior designers, contributing to innovative engineering solutions that support the Laboratory's scientific and national security missions.

Responsibilities

• Create detailed three-dimensional and two-dimensional facility designs.
• Evaluate, identify, and document existing deficiencies in facilities.
• Produce calculations and design recommendations for facility systems.
• Develop initial design solutions for new facilities, additions, renovations, and repairs.
• Facilitate design reviews and collaborate with engineers and stakeholders.
• Mentor junior designers and drafters.
• Lead design projects and resolve design package issues.

Requirements

• Minimum 3 years' experience in computer-aided drafting (CAD) software tools.
• At least 3 years working experience with field-verification and documentation of existing conditions.
• Minimum 3 years' experience in modeling and drawing drafting principles.
• Ability to layout systems in schematic and plan view.
• Experience verifying work from other Designer/Drafters according to drafting standards.
• Ability to mentor junior Designer/Drafters.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

• Knowledge of DOE and LANL Engineering Standards.
• AutoCAD Certification.
• Experience preparing and presenting AutoCAD training.
• Working knowledge of 3D model generation.
• Experience with Creo Parametric and PDMLink.
• Knowledge of GD&T.
