This role is integral to the New Product Development (NPD) and Sustaining Engineering initiatives, utilizing Autodesk Inventor to develop solid models and drawings. In addition to drafting responsibilities, the Designer/Drafter II supports the Engineering Change Control (ECN/ECR) process by working with teams outside of Engineering. The position requires proficiency in computer-aided design using AutoCAD and Inventor, focusing on creating 3D solid models, detail drawings, and system layout drawings as requested by Engineering. The role also involves making corrections, revisions, and changes to parts, models, assemblies, and layouts as necessary. The Designer/Drafter II is responsible for developing Customer Submittal documents and Customer Installation, Operation, and Maintenance Instructions. This position requires the ability to provide input and feedback on new or existing designs to enhance performance, cost-effectiveness, and manufacturability. Additionally, the Designer/Drafter II creates installation instructions, sales drawings, and submittals using AutoCAD and PageMaker software, resolves discrepancies by analyzing data, and maintains the organization and standard of controlled documents. The role also includes assisting in the transition to Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) to support the company's growth and actively participating in continuous improvement projects to drive productivity gains.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare drafting projects including various drawings of structures and equipment systems from layouts and sketches.
  • Follow established technical specifications to prepare accurate drawings and assist in design drafting.
  • Consult with engineers regarding model accuracy, design, and drafting standards.
  • Develop solid models and drawings using Autodesk Inventor to support New Product Development (NPD) and Sustaining Engineering initiatives.
  • Support the Engineering Change Control (ECN/ECR) process by collaborating with teams outside of Engineering.
  • Perform computer-aided design using AutoCAD and Inventor to create 3D solid models, detail drawings, and system layout drawings as requested by Engineering.
  • Make corrections, revisions, and changes to parts, models, assemblies, and layouts as required.
  • Develop Customer Submittal documents and Customer Installation, Operation, and Maintenance Instructions.

  • Participate in continuous improvement projects to drive process and productivity output gains.
  • Review job details and blueprints, and submit project information into the work funnel for further processing.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology or Mechanical Drafting & Design; Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience working proficiently in AutoCAD and 3D CAD (Inventor a plus), Version 2012 or newer.
  • Familiarity with ASME Y14 drafting standards.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software including Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Familiarity with Adobe Acrobat Professional, Adobe PageMaker 7.0, Adobe InDesign, and Adobe Illustrator.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex detail drawings and architectural/structural blueprints.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Autodesk Inventor.
