About the position

The Designer Drafter position is a critical role within the plant engineering department, focusing on drafting, designing, and supporting various engineering tasks related to capital equipment installations, maintenance, and troubleshooting. This position requires collaboration in a team environment, working closely with plant engineering, maintenance, and other department personnel to ensure effective communication and project execution. The Designer Drafter will be involved in various aspects of project management, including attending project and safety meetings, participating in project estimation sessions, and producing a variety of technical drawings such as layouts, P&IDs, process flow diagrams, and more. In addition to drafting responsibilities, the Designer Drafter will be tasked with producing print plots, converting prints to PDF format, and taking field measurements to ensure accuracy in designs. The role also involves reviewing vendor equipment drawings, writing material lists, quoting materials, and tracking purchases. Archiving all prints and material lists is essential, as is assisting the plant in locating archived materials. The Designer Drafter will also support the Graphic Technology Program (GTP) with graphic art needs and provide maintenance support by creating flat patterns and part drawings. Safety and compliance are paramount in this role, as the Designer Drafter must design in accordance with OSHA regulations related to construction, ladders, railings, decks, piping, electrical systems, and ASME pressure vessels. The ability to work under limited supervision is crucial, as is the capacity to adapt to various tasks as required by the GTP.

Responsibilities

  • Work in a team environment with plant engineering, maintenance and department personnel.
  • Communicate with project team, maintenance and department personnel.
  • Attend plant engineering project and safety meetings.
  • Participate in project estimation sessions.
  • Produce drawings - layouts, P&ID's, process flow diagrams, piping, structural, electrical, fabrication, installation.
  • Produce print plots, copy prints and convert prints to PDF format.
  • Take field measurements.
  • Review vendor equipment drawings.
  • Write material lists, quote materials, write purchase requisitions, track material.
  • Archive all prints and material lists, assist plant in finding archived materials.
  • Support GTP with graphic art for SEA and plant needs.
  • Support maintenance providing flat patterns and part drawings.
  • Perform beam calculations and deck design.
  • Design in compliance with OSHA regulations as they pertain to construction, ladders, railings, decks, piping, electrical, ASME pressure vessels.
  • Perform any other tasks that GTP feels are relevant and required for this position.

Requirements

  • 2-year Cad/Drafting Degree or equivalent experience.
  • 8-12 years of experience in drafting and design.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD.
  • Ability to work at a computer for 8 hours a day.
  • Ability to take measurements in a chemical plant environment.
