About the position

The Designer/Draftsman-Electrical will play a crucial role in supporting a technical team of engineers by creating detailed designs for a variety of projects. This position involves developing computer-aided drafting design solutions that are essential for the successful execution of engineering tasks. The individual will be responsible for preparing new drawings and revising existing engineering drawings, focusing on basic components derived from specific sketches or layouts, including electrical one-lines and conduit layouts. Adherence to company and client drafting standards and procedures is paramount, ensuring that all work meets the required quality and compliance standards. In addition to drafting responsibilities, the Designer/Draftsman will assist in the documentation process for various projects, contributing to the drafting design and ensuring that all details are accurately represented. The role also includes participating in continuous improvement efforts related to drafting details, which may involve researching solutions to project concerns and presenting viable solutions to design problems. The individual will be expected to assist with ad hoc projects as assigned by managers, demonstrating flexibility and a willingness to take on additional responsibilities as needed. Overall, this position requires a proactive approach to drafting and design, with a focus on collaboration and effective communication within the team. The Designer/Draftsman will be expected to manage their time effectively to meet deadlines and stay within budget constraints, contributing to the overall success of the projects they are involved in.

Responsibilities

• Assist a technical team of engineers to create competent detail on a variety of projects.
• Develop computer-aided drafting design solutions.
• Prepare new drawings and revise existing engineering drawings of basic components from specific sketches or layouts, such as electrical one-lines and conduit layouts.
• Adhere to company and client drafting standards and procedures.
• Assist in drafting design and documentation for various projects.
• Utilize standard drafting detail programs for tasks.
• Participate in continuous drafting detail improvement efforts.
• Research solutions to project concerns and present solutions to design problems.
• Assist with ad hoc projects as assigned by managers.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma and course work in drafting technology or specialized CAD certification or 1-year relevant drafting experience.
• Associate degree or bachelor's degree in computer aided drafting/design preferred.
• Basic knowledge of commands in at least one CAD program (AutoCAD preferred).
• Ability to occasionally use higher-level commands, time saving programs and routines.
• Experience with One-Line Diagrams, Conduit and Equipment plan drawings and 3D layout preferred.
• Experience with XREF management strongly preferred.
• Solid fundamentals of layer management strongly preferred.
• AutoCAD Electrical experience preferred.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
• Ability to work in collaborative team environment.
• Basic knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
• Demonstrated leadership skills.
• Self-motivated and eager learner, aptitude to grow and develop within the field.
• Ability to meet deadlines and budget.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with One-Line Diagrams, Conduit and Equipment plan drawings and 3D layout preferred.
