About the position

The Designer/Draftsman - Mechanical will play a crucial role in supporting a technical team of engineers and designers by creating detailed designs for a variety of projects. This position involves developing computer-aided drafting design solutions that are essential for the successful execution of engineering projects. The individual will be responsible for preparing new drawings and revising existing engineering drawings based on specific sketches or layouts provided by the engineering team. Adherence to company and client drafting standards and procedures is paramount, ensuring that all designs meet the required specifications and quality standards. In addition to drafting, the Designer/Draftsman will assist in the documentation process for various projects, contributing to the overall drafting design and documentation efforts. The role requires the individual to utilize standard drafting detail programs effectively and to engage in continuous improvement efforts related to drafting details. Researching solutions to project concerns and presenting viable solutions to design problems will also be part of the responsibilities. The Designer/Draftsman will assist with ad hoc projects as assigned by managers, demonstrating flexibility and a willingness to take on additional tasks as needed. Overall, this position is integral to the success of the engineering team, requiring a blend of technical skills, creativity, and collaboration to produce high-quality designs that meet project requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Assist a technical team of engineers and designers to create competent detail on a variety of projects.
  • Develop computer-aided drafting design solutions.
  • Prepare new drawings and revise existing engineering drawings of basic components from specific sketches or layouts.
  • Adhere to company and client drafting standards and procedures.
  • Assist in drafting design and documentation for various projects.
  • Utilize standard drafting detail programs for tasks.
  • Engage in continuous drafting detail improvement efforts.
  • Research solutions to project concerns and present solutions to design problems.
  • Assist with ad hoc projects as assigned by managers.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Associate degree or relevant experience in computer aided design/drafting preferred.
  • Two years experience in a related field.
  • Basic knowledge of commands in at least one CAD program (AutoCAD preferred).
  • Ability to occasionally use higher-level commands, time saving programs and routines.
  • Experience with Piping and Instrumentation Drawings, Piping Layout Drawings, Piping Isometrics, Equipment plan drawings and 3D layout preferred.
  • Experience with XREF management strongly preferred.
  • Solid fundamentals of layer management strongly preferred.
  • Experience with ACAD Inventor and Plant 3-D preferred.
  • Process plant experience preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative team environment.
  • Basic knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Self-motivated and eager learner, aptitude to grow and develop within the field.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and budget.
