About the position

The Designer, Instructional position at Austin Community College (ACC) is designed to provide consultation, project management, and support services in instructional strategies, design, content creation, and the use of various communication modes such as websites, video, and audio. This role is crucial in the development of curricula for higher educational learning, ensuring that instructional materials are effective and accessible to a diverse student population. The Designer will manage instructional projects and related collegewide strategic initiatives from conception through implementation, collaborating closely with faculty to enhance instructional materials and delivery methods. This collaboration aims to ensure that students can interact with and apply learning outcomes effectively, thereby increasing student success and retention rates. In this role, the Designer will also be responsible for developing and maintaining software-based learning modules for instructional or training purposes. They will design, develop, and deliver workshops and training sessions for faculty on the use of instructional technologies and educational best practices. The Designer will create learning materials in various formats, including print, graphics, audio, video, animation, and multimedia, to support teaching and learning needs across the college. Additionally, they will maintain a database of instructional design projects and provide assistance to faculty in utilizing technology tools and instructional software effectively. The position requires research into educational best practices and instructional resources, ensuring that all materials comply with copyright and ADA standards. The Designer will facilitate curriculum development sessions, document findings, and write reports to measure the effectiveness of course design and student learning. This role may also involve overseeing the peer review process to ensure high-quality instructional design.

Responsibilities

  • Manages instructional projects and related collegewide strategic initiatives from conception through implementation.
  • Consults with faculty on instructional design, strategies, and learning objectives; makes recommendations on enhancing instructional materials and deliveries.
  • Assists in the development of course materials, assessment techniques, and appropriate integration of instructional technologies.
  • Develops and maintains software-based learning modules for instructional or training purposes.
  • Designs, develops, and delivers workshops and training to faculty in the use of instructional technologies and educational best practices.
  • Designs and produces learning materials in various formats including print, graphics, audio, video, animation, and multimedia.
  • Maintains a database regarding instructional design projects and related files and records.
  • Provides assistance to faculty in technology tools and methods, use of instructional software, and effective uses of multimedia.
  • Researches and makes recommendations on educational best practices, instructional resources, and multimedia hardware/software.
  • Facilitates curriculum development sessions, documents findings, and writes reports.
  • Conducts occupational analysis and develops job profiles working with business partners and internal stakeholders.
  • Assures courses and projects meet accessibility standards.
  • Collaborates with others to measure the effectiveness of course design and student learning.

Requirements

  • Two years of related work experience.
  • Master's degree in a relevant field.

Nice-to-haves

  • Doctorate in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, Education, or related field.
  • Experience with a variety of software such as Adobe Dreamweaver CC, Photoshop, Captivate, Camtasia, and Illustrator.
  • Familiarity with webpage editors (Google Sites, WordPress, Adobe Web development tools), graphic software, and CSS.
  • Experience with course management tools such as Blackboard Ultra and learning tools like Respondus and Google Suite.
  • Experience with web conferencing tools such as Google Hangouts, WebEx, Zoom, and Class for Zoom.
