About the position

The Designer Mechanical position at Woodward involves working with minimal supervision to perform diverse and intermediate-level design assignments, primarily in a New Products Introduction (NPI) environment. The role focuses on the design and development of fuel nozzles, utilizing advanced software and engineering principles to ensure high-quality product outcomes. The designer will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure manufacturability and design feasibility while contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop fuel nozzles using Creo Parametric software.
  • Create detailed 3D models and 2D drawings of fuel nozzle components and assemblies.
  • Apply GD&T principles to ensure accurate fit, form, and function of designed components.
  • Develop and implement appropriate datum schemes to facilitate manufacturing and inspection processes.
  • Use Windchill to manage design release and revisions.
  • Utilize the model tree effectively to organize and manage complex assemblies.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date design documentation, including Bill of Materials, design specifications, drawings, and technical reports.
  • Conduct design reviews and provide technical support to cross-functional teams.
  • Work closely with other designers, engineers, and manufacturing teams and vendors to ensure design feasibility and manufacturability.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders to gather requirements and provide design updates.
  • Participate in cross-functional project teams to deliver high-quality, cost-effective fuel nozzle designs.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest industry trends, tools, and technologies related to mechanical design and fuel nozzles.
  • Identify opportunities for design improvements and cost reductions.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of best practices and design standards.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree - 2 year technical degree, certificate, or applicable experience.
  • 5 or more years of applicable work experience in mechanical design, preferably in the aerospace or automotive industry.
  • Proficiency in Creo Parametric software, including experience with the model tree.
  • Strong working knowledge of GD&T and the appropriate datum scheme.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes such as casting, forging, welding/brazing, CNC, EDM, milling/turning/grinding.
  • Certification in GD&T or related areas.
