The Desk Booking Specialist II position at the City of Palm Bay involves performing clerical and specialized law enforcement work under general supervision. The specialist will be responsible for various tasks such as answering inquiries, processing reports, and managing prisoner bookings, while ensuring compliance with law enforcement protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Answer telephone calls and greet visitors, providing information or referring them to appropriate officials.
  • Receive complaints and prepare preliminary reports or update existing case files.
  • Operate two-way radio to contact department personnel in the field as needed.
  • Accept Domestic Violence Reports and handle calls for service as outlined in the Department's Standard Operating Procedure.
  • Dispatched to crime scenes and process incidents as required.
  • Transport prisoners from the field to the Police Station and to medical facilities when necessary.
  • Conduct non-urgent investigations and handle various misdemeanors as assigned by a supervisor.
  • Utilize computerized data entry equipment and maintain various files and records.
  • Compile materials for investigation reports, ensuring accuracy in spelling, punctuation, and format.
  • Maintain inventory of office and detention supplies, preparing requisitions as necessary.
  • Admit prisoners to the detention center, ensuring proper booking and searching procedures are followed.
  • Secure and manage prisoners' property, ensuring proper storage and return upon release.
  • Review logs and reports from previous shifts and maintain knowledge of prisoner population and cell assignments.
  • Supervise the detention area to prevent escapes and maintain order, conducting periodic patrols.
  • Inspect and clean the detention area to meet state and local requirements.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent.
  • 1 to 2 years of clerical experience or equivalent training and experience.
  • Valid Florida Driver's License with an acceptable driving record.
  • Certified as a Correction Officer by the Criminal Justice Training Section of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in law enforcement or corrections environment.
  • Familiarity with computerized data entry systems and law enforcement protocols.
