The Desktop Support Engineer position at the University of West Florida is a critical role responsible for the maintenance, security, improvement, and operational support of the Florida SBDC State Office's technology infrastructure. This position plays a vital part in enabling effective, efficient, and innovative use of technology within the organization. The successful candidate will be tasked with a variety of responsibilities that ensure the smooth operation of IT systems and support for staff in utilizing these technologies effectively. Key responsibilities include researching, specifying, acquiring, configuring, and installing IT hardware and software. The Desktop Support Engineer will monitor and maintain the IT infrastructure, which encompasses both wired and wireless networks, servers, shared network resources, printers, and cloud-based services. Additionally, the role involves investigating and resolving problems and malfunctions, conducting proactive preventative maintenance, and maintaining accurate inventory and maintenance records for IT equipment and infrastructure. The engineer will also be responsible for ensuring appropriate levels of spare parts and consumables are available. In addition to these duties, the position requires assisting the FSBDC State Office staff in the safe, effective, and productive use of information technology. The engineer will also contribute to the maintenance, improvement, and operational support of the Network's technology infrastructure, helping to develop policies that ensure the security of the Network's information. This includes assisting in the development and implementation of cybersecurity initiatives for small businesses and serving as a Subject Matter Expert for the Network. The Desktop Support Engineer will also be responsible for the technical maintenance of multiple WordPress websites, ensuring that all relevant updates and patches are applied in a timely manner, monitoring for vulnerabilities, and advising marketing staff on technical matters as needed. Furthermore, the role includes administration, maintenance, and enhancement of the Florida SBDC Network's Mobile Assistance Centers, ensuring that electrical and information systems are functioning properly when the vehicles are not deployed and assisting with pre-deployment systems checks and repairs.
