About the position

The Desktop Support Engineer position within the Department of Public Works is responsible for providing technical support for desktop systems, user support, and system administration in a diverse and dynamic environment. This role involves managing approximately 800 Windows devices and 50 servers, ensuring efficient operation and maintenance of IT infrastructure, and delivering high-quality service to end users.

Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day desktop support and user assistance.
  • Manage patching and system administration for Windows devices.
  • Oversee the deployment of Windows 11 OS and Windows Server 2019 or newer.
  • Utilize Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (SCCM) for device management.
  • Implement Active Directory (AD) and Group Policies (GPO).
  • Support mobile device management (MDM) and basic SQL tasks.
  • Apply cyber security remediation techniques as needed.
  • Maintain device and replacement part inventories.
  • Interact with customers to ensure timely support and assistance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, MIS, or a closely related field.
  • Three years of experience in technical work providing desktop, data security, system administration, server, or network support.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license in California.
  • Industry certification in relevant IT field, such as Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA).

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with PowerShell scripting.
  • Knowledge of Autopilot, Intune, and Azure.
  • Familiarity with mobile device management (MDM) solutions.
