About the position

The Desktop Support Engineer is responsible for the overall systems infrastructure, including engineering, implementation, integration, and technical services and support. This role involves designing, implementing, maintaining, and administering hardware and software infrastructures, as well as troubleshooting server hardware and application software issues. The engineer will also provide third-level support to field offices and affiliate personnel, ensuring effective communication and operational support for voice and data systems.

Responsibilities

  • Develop the technology architecture of the firm, including hardware, software, voice applications, networking, systems, and support processes.
  • Assist with provisioning services for voice communication services for GEMS and local clients.
  • Work closely with IT managers/supervisors to develop strategy and architecture that benefits the organization.
  • Maintain contract compliance for voice and data vendors.
  • Assess new technologies and inform management of appropriate changes.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve problems related to voice and data communication systems.
  • Monitor overall performance to proactively identify potential issues and tune systems appropriately.
  • Perform root cause analysis on failed components and implement corrective measures.
  • Provide third-level support on hardware, software, voice applications, networks, and business applications.
  • Configure, document, implement, and troubleshoot various software products including Microsoft Server Operating Systems and Email Systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a computer-related field preferred but not required (equivalent experience will suffice).
  • 1-2 years' experience with Ethernet network environment and peripherals.
  • 1-2 years' experience with HP/Compaq servers - SmartStart and Insight Manager.
  • Strong technical background on IBM PC/AT compatible hardware and peripherals.
  • Strong knowledge of DHCP, TCP/IP, WINS, DNS, LMHost, and Host files.
  • Project management skills and experience with disaster recovery and planning concepts.
  • Excellent verbal and writing skills.
  • Strong analytical skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Microsoft Certification preferred but not required - MCSE NT 4.0, 2000 or 2003.
