About the position

The Desktop Support Engineer position at Hawaiian Telcom is designed for individuals who are passionate about providing exceptional support for computer hardware and software issues. This role requires a proactive approach to troubleshooting and resolving IT-related problems, whether on-site or through remote connections. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting with hardware installations, software upgrades, and systems integrations, ensuring that all end-user support requests are handled efficiently and effectively. The position demands a strong understanding of current operating systems and applications, as well as excellent problem-solving and interpersonal skills. In this role, you will provide both remote and on-site support across multiple locations as needed. You will be tasked with responding to end-user support requests and escalations from the Helpdesk, managing tickets to ensure timely resolution. Key responsibilities include hardware installations, upgrades, and troubleshooting, as well as installing Windows software, patches, updates, and third-party applications. Familiarity with desktop encryption and workstation deployments is essential, along with the ability to create and manage workstation images. Additionally, you will be expected to provide basic guidance in computer operation and management, and participate in special projects as required. The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's degree in computer science or information technology, along with 2 to 3 years of relevant IT experience. Certifications such as Microsoft 365 Certified: Modern Desktop Administrator Associate and A+ Certification are preferred, as they demonstrate a commitment to professional development and expertise in the field.

Responsibilities

  • Provide remote and on-site support for one or more locations as needed
  • Respond to end user support requests and escalations from the Helpdesk via tickets
  • Perform hardware installations, upgrades, and troubleshooting
  • Install Windows software, patches, updates, and 3rd party applications
  • Manage desktop encryption
  • Deploy workstations
  • Create and manage workstation images
  • Provide basic guidance in computer operation and management
  • Participate in special projects as required

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or information technology preferred
  • 2 to 3 years of IT experience
  • Microsoft 365 Certified: Modern Desktop Administrator Associate preferred
  • A+ Certification preferred
  • Knowledge of computer hardware systems, chipsets, memory modules, and peripherals
  • Knowledge of SCCM and other popular endpoint support systems
  • Knowledge of PowerShell, scripting, Group Policy, and Active Directory
  • Experience with Dell and HP computer hardware
  • Knowledge of Windows 10 and 11 operating systems and domain environments
  • Experience with mobile devices (IOS, Android, Windows)
  • Ability to independently research, troubleshoot and solve complex hardware and software issues
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently with limited supervision
  • Ability to travel and work after hours support/On-Call when necessary
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds
