About the position

The Desktop Support Engineer role focuses on providing enterprise-level support within data center environments, particularly in the health care and life sciences domains. The position requires a blend of technical expertise in data center operations, strong communication skills, and the ability to work independently to resolve issues and implement IT solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Provide operational and technical support in data center environments.
  • Ensure the functionality of data center facilities infrastructure systems including power, cooling, security, and fire protection.
  • Manage server and network systems installation, operation, and maintenance practices.
  • Understand and support network environments and topologies.
  • Oversee IT equipment inter-connectivity and subsystem integration.
  • Communicate effectively with local and remote support teams using various methods.
  • Apply IT operational best practices and industry standards in daily tasks.
  • Assist with incident response, root cause analysis, and corrective action plans (CAPA).
  • Manage task ticketing systems and fulfill requests efficiently.
  • Identify, document, and manage local IT assets and inventory processes.
  • Ensure adherence to IT processes by local resources and vendors in IT spaces.
  • Maintain orderliness and cleanliness of onsite IT environments.
  • Work independently on analysis, design, and implementation of IT solutions.
  • Evaluate operational issues and communicate them to appropriate support teams for resolution.
  • Foster positive cross-team partnerships and collaboration.
  • Create and modify IT space room and rack diagrams using Visio or similar applications.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of data center experience.
  • College degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  • Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) or equivalent certification.
  • Data Center operational or technical certifications.
  • Network operational or technical certifications.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to follow up promptly.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS) as a user.
  • Familiarity with software applications such as MS Word, MS Excel, MS Visio, MS Outlook, MS Teams, and Google Chrome.
