About the position

The Desktop Support Technician plays a crucial role in providing customer support for Information Technology at Marshall Medical Center. This position focuses on assisting users with telecom equipment, software, hardware, and client peripherals, ensuring effective problem resolution and customer service. The technician is responsible for installations, repairs, and troubleshooting of various client devices, acting as an escalation point for helpdesk staff when in-person service is required. Additionally, the role may involve account administration and advising customers on the use of hardware and software.

Responsibilities

  • Provide customer support for IT-related issues including telecom equipment, software, hardware, and client peripherals.
  • Install and repair client devices such as desktop PCs, laptops, tablets, and printers.
  • Troubleshoot device connectivity issues and facilitate the effective use of organizational software applications.
  • Act as an escalation point for helpdesk staff for complex issues requiring in-person service.
  • Instruct and advise customers on the use of hardware and software, including department-specific applications.
  • Assist with account administration in applications managed by IT, including Active Directory and file permissions.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Knowledge of Information Technology and computer operations is required.
  • Experience working in a healthcare facility is desirable.
  • Familiarity with hospital information systems is preferred.
  • Knowledge of common IT issues, troubleshooting methods, and client operations systems is strongly preferred.
  • Good physical dexterity and impeccable customer service skills are required.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, documentation, and writing skills are essential.
  • Ability to prioritize, organize, and multi-task effectively.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with account administration including permissions and methodologies is desirable.
  • Experience with network/local printers and data communications is a plus.
