About the position
The Detention Attendant position at the Worcester Police Department involves maintaining order and providing care and security for prisoners. The role includes receiving and processing prisoners, monitoring their well-being, and ensuring the security and maintenance of the detention area. The successful candidate will work under the direction of a Police Lieutenant and is expected to uphold moral integrity while interacting with inmates and the public.
Responsibilities
- Receive, conduct searches of, and book prisoners.
- Serve as a guard and exercise immediate supervision over inmates in cells.
- Make periodic inspections of cells and holding areas to prevent injury to persons and property.
- Conduct periodic counts of inmates and checks of all prison areas to prevent escape attempts.
- Monitor prisoners for sickness or injury and summon medical treatment as necessary.
- Receive and safeguard personal property of prisoners until their release.
- Make verbal and written reports to superior officers as required.
- Perform related work as required.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Experience with record keeping or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent communication skills.
Nice-to-haves
- One year of experience working in or with law enforcement.
- One year of experience with customer service.
