About the position

The position involves ensuring the safe and secure daily operation of the Dallas County Juvenile Detention Center by implementing a quality behavior intervention management program. This program is designed to assist youth assigned to Safety Based and Disciplinary Seclusion sections in Detention Services. The role includes assessing youth by evaluating their current behavior to determine appropriate placement, conducting verbal check-ins to assess their emotional state, and making decisions regarding their release from seclusion based on evaluations. The incumbent will provide onsite coverage seven days a week during program hours and will be responsible for determining appropriate sanctions and incentives to modify resident behavior according to established guidelines. Additionally, the role requires recording and submitting necessary documentation, recommending referrals for case consultation, and developing plans to address the behavioral needs of the youth. The position also involves diffusing disruptive behaviors and planning staff development, including new staff orientation.

Responsibilities

  • Implement a quality behavior intervention management program for youth in detention.
  • Assess youth behavior to determine appropriate placement and conduct verbal check-ins.
  • Make decisions regarding the release of youth from safety-based or other types of seclusion.
  • Provide onsite coverage in the behavioral management section during program hours.
  • Determine appropriate sanctions and incentives to modify resident behavior.
  • Record and submit required documentation, including incident and statistical reports.
  • Recommend appropriate referrals for case consultation with clinical staff and detention response team.
  • Develop and recommend plans to address the behavioral needs of youth.
  • Diffuse disruptive or destructive behaviors through intervention and regulation skills.
  • Plan and implement staff development, including new staff orientation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Social Work, Behavioral Science, or a related field.
  • One year of work-related experience.
  • Skilled in the use of standard software applications.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws and regulations pertaining to behavior intervention of children in a secure environment.
  • Valid Texas driver's license with a good driving record.
  • Ability to pass an extensive background investigation and mandatory drug testing.
