About the position

At CoreCivic, we do more than manage inmates; we care for people! We are currently seeking a Detention Officer PRN (As Needed Basis) who has a passion for providing the highest quality care in an institutional setting. The Detention Officer, PRN performs routine duties in accordance with established policies, regulations, and procedures to maintain order and provide for the security, care, and direct supervision of inmates/residents in housing units, during meals, recreation, work assignments, and all other phases of activity in a correctional facility. This role may require the use of weapons or force to maintain discipline and order, and the officer must be able to work any post assignment on any shift. The responsibilities of the Detention Officer include maintaining order, safety, and security of residents in a correctional facility. The officer will engage in a variety of interchangeable work areas that include, but are not limited to, armory/key control, housing units, kitchen, medical, visitation, and more. This position is critical in ensuring the safety and security of both the inmates and the facility staff, and it requires a dedicated individual who can handle the challenges of a correctional environment.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain order, safety, and security of residents in a correctional facility.
  • Provide direct supervision of inmates/residents in housing units, during meals, recreation, and work assignments.
  • Engage in various work areas including armory/key control, housing units, kitchen, medical, and visitation.
  • Employ weapons or force as necessary to maintain discipline and order.
  • Complete any required training to meet contract requirements and/or standards.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED certification, or equivalent.
  • Completion of pre-service correctional officer training.
  • Must be a non-commissioned security officer licensed by the state of employment, where applicable.
  • A valid driver's license and clear driving record are required.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
