About the position

The Detention Officer plays a crucial role in ensuring safety and security within correctional facilities. This full-time position requires a dedicated individual capable of managing conflicts, enforcing rules, and ensuring the well-being of both inmates and staff. The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills and the ability to respond effectively in high-pressure situations.

Responsibilities

• Supervise inmates and maintain order within the facility.
• Conduct regular inspections of inmate living areas and common spaces.
• Monitor inmate behavior and intervene in conflicts as necessary.
• Enforce facility rules and regulations consistently and fairly.
• Prepare accurate reports on incidents, inmate behavior, and daily activities.
• Respond to emergencies, utilizing first aid and CPR techniques when required.
• Operate surveillance equipment such as CCTV to monitor facility activities.
• Collaborate with law enforcement agencies during investigations or emergencies.
• Participate in training programs to enhance skills in conflict management and report writing.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent; additional certification in law enforcement or related fields is preferred.
• Strong conflict management skills with the ability to de-escalate tense situations.
• Knowledge of first aid and CPR; certification is a plus.
• Experience with report writing to document incidents accurately.
• Familiarity with surveillance systems, including CCTV operation.
• Ability to work in a militarized environment, adhering to strict protocols and procedures.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Must pass background checks and any required pre-employment assessments.

Nice-to-haves

• Additional certification in law enforcement or related fields is preferred.
• Knowledge of first aid and CPR certification is a plus.
