About the position

As a DevOps Cloud Engineer at General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT), you will play a crucial role in delivering innovative solutions to complex challenges faced by the largest government agency in the nation. Your primary responsibility will be to support the United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) at Fort Liberty, NC, ensuring that the mission to keep our country safe and secure is met with the highest standards of technology and efficiency. You will be tasked with automating the installation, configuration, and maintenance of platform services, which are essential for the smooth operation of distributed and managed services. Your expertise will be vital in managing system tuning for reliability and efficiency, guiding software releases for new features, and providing support to users during consolidation processes. In this role, you will also perform administrative operations related to server hardware and software, ensuring system security and executing best practices and procedures. Troubleshooting system-related problems will be a key part of your responsibilities, as will staying current with operating systems, software analysis, and technological developments. You will be expected to recommend future directions or projects to management and provide technical guidance and leadership to less experienced engineers. Responsibilities

  • Automate the installation, configuration, and maintenance of platform services.
  • Manage system tuning for reliability and efficiency.
  • Guide and manage software releases for new features.
  • Support users through consolidation processes.
  • Perform administrative operations of server hardware and software.
  • Ensure system security and execute best practices and procedures.
  • Troubleshoot system-related problems.
  • Stay current in operating systems/software analysis and technological developments.
  • Recommend future direction or projects to management.
  • Provide expertise and direction in the development or modification of software programs and applications.

Requirements

  • Must have experience in deploying applications from end to end in an Enterprise Cloud environment.
  • 5 years of IT and/or software experience.
  • Experience with Kubernetes.
  • Participated in or led agile development teams.
  • In-depth understanding of DevOps methodologies.
  • Worked with Continuous Integration tools such as Concourse, Spinnaker, Jenkins, Bamboo, or TeamCity.
  • Experience in VMware vSphere / ESXi / NSX-T.
  • Experience with networking and related technologies (e.g., load balancing, DNS, SSL, firewalls, NAT, SDN).
  • Experienced in using Git.
  • Experience in release management.
  • Experience supporting production systems using Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices.
  • Competent to work at a high technical level on all phases of systems engineering activities.
  • Excellent communication and briefing skills; shows tact; effective listening skills and follow through.
  • Solid work ethic and the ability to work in a mission-critical environment.
  • Detail-oriented and organized; able to understand information systems and ensure accuracy of work.
  • Provides technical guidance and leadership to engineers with less experience.
  • DOD 8570 IAT Level II required (Level III preferred).

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, and OpenStack.
  • Experience with automation/orchestration tools such as Chef, Ansible, BOSH.
  • Experience with platform as a service products like Cloud Foundry, Heroku, or Elastic Beanstalk.
  • Experience working with DNS, NTP, SAML, OAuth 2, Active Directory.
  • Understanding of systems monitoring, alerting, and analytics tools (e.g., Prometheus, New Relic, AppDynamics, ELK, Splunk).
  • Background in Windows deployment, automation, and related technologies.
  • Experience with database technologies (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, MSSQL) and messaging middleware technologies (e.g., RabbitMQ).
