About the position

As a DevOps Engineer at GDIT, you will be tasked with delivering simple solutions to complex problems, specifically tailored to meet the unique requirements of our clients. Your role will focus on application development, ensuring that the end user's experience is prioritized while also fostering your own career growth. You will be joining a team that supports USSOCOM at Fort Liberty, NC, where your contributions will help ensure that today is safe and tomorrow is smarter. In this position, you will be responsible for managing distributed and managed services, automating the installation, configuration, and maintenance of platform services. You will also oversee system tuning for reliability and efficiency, guide and manage software releases for new features, and support users through consolidation. Your duties will occasionally include performing administrative operations on server hardware and software, ensuring system security, and executing best practices and procedures. You will troubleshoot system-related problems and remain current in operating systems/software analysis and technological developments. Additionally, you will provide expertise and direction in the development or modification of software programs and applications to enhance operating systems. To succeed in this role, you will need to have a strong background in deploying applications from end to end in an Enterprise Cloud environment, with at least 5 years of IT and/or software experience. Your experience should include working with Kubernetes, participating in or leading agile development teams, and having an in-depth understanding of DevOps methodologies. You will also need to be competent in working at a high technical level on all phases of systems engineering activities, demonstrating excellent communication and briefing skills, and providing technical guidance and leadership to less experienced engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Automate the installation, configuration, and maintenance of platform services.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of related experience in IT and/or software development.
  • Experience in deploying applications from end to end in an Enterprise Cloud environment.
  • Experience with Kubernetes and agile development teams.
  • In-depth understanding of DevOps methodologies.
  • Experience with Continuous Integration tools such as Concourse, Spinnaker, Jenkins, Bamboo, or TeamCity.
  • Experience in VMware vSphere / ESXi / NSX-T.
  • Knowledge of networking technologies (e.g., load balancing, DNS, SSL, firewalls, NAT, SDN).
  • Experience using Git and in release management.
  • Experience supporting production systems using Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices.
  • DOD 8570 IAT Level II certification required (Level III preferred).

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, and OpenStack.
  • Experience with automation/orchestration tools such as Chef, Ansible, BOSH.
  • Experience with platform as a service products like Cloud Foundry, Heroku, or Elastic Beanstalk.
  • Understanding of systems monitoring, alerting, and analytics tools (e.g., Prometheus, New Relic, Splunk).
  • Background in Windows deployment and automation technologies.
  • Experience with databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle) and messaging middleware technologies (e.g., RabbitMQ).
