About the position

As a DevOps Cloud Engineer at GDIT, you will be tasked with delivering innovative solutions to complex challenges faced by our clients. Your role will involve tailoring cutting-edge solutions that prioritize the end-user experience while also focusing on your career growth. You will be joining a team that supports USSOCOM at Fort Liberty, NC, where your contributions will help ensure safety today and intelligence for tomorrow. In this position, you will be responsible for managing distributed and managed services, automating the installation, configuration, and maintenance of platform services. You will also oversee system tuning for reliability and efficiency, guide software releases for new features, and support users through consolidation efforts. Your responsibilities will occasionally include the administrative operation of server hardware and software, ensuring system security, troubleshooting system-related problems, and staying current with technological developments. You will provide expertise in the development or modification of software programs and applications to enhance operating systems, making recommendations for future projects to management. To succeed in this role, you will need a strong background in deploying applications in an Enterprise Cloud environment, with at least 5 years of IT and software experience. Your experience with Kubernetes, agile development teams, and various Continuous Integration tools will be crucial. You will also need to demonstrate excellent communication skills, a solid work ethic, and the ability to work in a mission-critical environment. Additionally, you will provide technical guidance and leadership to less experienced engineers, ensuring the team operates effectively and efficiently.

Responsibilities

  • Automate the installation, configuration, and maintenance of platform services.
  • Manage system tuning for reliability and efficiency.
  • Guide and manage software releases for new features.
  • Support users through consolidation efforts.
  • Perform administrative operations of server hardware and software.
  • Ensure system security and execute practices and procedures.
  • Troubleshoot system-related problems.
  • Stay current in operating systems/software analysis and technological developments.
  • Recommend future direction or projects to management.
  • Provide expertise and direction in the development or modification of software programs and applications.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of related experience in IT and software development.
  • Experience in deploying applications from end to end in an Enterprise Cloud environment.
  • 5 years of IT and/or software experience.
  • Experience with Kubernetes.
  • Participation in or leadership of agile development teams.
  • In-depth understanding of DevOps methodologies.
  • Experience with Continuous Integration tools such as Concourse, Spinnaker, Jenkins, Bamboo, or TeamCity.
  • Experience in VMware vSphere / ESXi / NSX-T.
  • Experience with networking technologies (e.g., load balancing, DNS, SSL, firewalls, NAT, SDN).
  • Proficient in using Git.
  • Experience in release management.
  • Experience supporting production systems using Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices.
  • Ability to work at a high technical level on all phases of systems engineering activities.
  • Excellent communication and briefing skills; effective listening skills and follow-through.
  • Detail-oriented and organized; able to understand information systems and ensure accuracy of work.
  • DOD 8570 IAT Level II required (Level III preferred).

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, and OpenStack.
  • Experience with automation/orchestration tools such as Chef, Ansible, BOSH.
  • Experience with platform as a service products like Cloud Foundry, Heroku, or Elastic Beanstalk.
  • Experience working with DNS, NTP, SAML, OAuth 2, Active Directory.
  • Understanding of systems monitoring, alerting, and analytics tools (e.g., Prometheus, New Relic, Splunk).
  • Background in Windows deployment and automation technologies.
  • Experience with databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle) and messaging middleware technologies (e.g., RabbitMQ).
