About the position

As a DevOps Cloud Engineer at GDIT, you will be tasked with delivering innovative solutions to complex challenges faced by our clients. In this position, you will be responsible for managing distributed and managed services, automating the installation, configuration, and maintenance of platform services. You will also oversee system tuning for reliability and efficiency, guide software releases for new features, and support users through system consolidation. Your duties will include performing administrative operations on server hardware and software, ensuring system security, troubleshooting system-related issues, and staying current with technological developments. You will provide expertise in the development or modification of software programs and applications to enhance operating systems, making recommendations for future projects to management. To succeed in this role, you will need a strong foundation in IT and software development, with a focus on DevOps methodologies. You will be expected to work collaboratively within agile development teams and provide technical guidance to less experienced engineers. Your ability to communicate effectively and maintain a solid work ethic in a mission-critical environment will be essential to your success.

Responsibilities

  • Automate the installation, configuration, and maintenance of platform services.
  • Manage system tuning for reliability and efficiency.
  • Guide and manage software releases for new features.
  • Support users through system consolidation.
  • Perform administrative operations on server hardware and software.
  • Ensure system security and execute practices and procedures.
  • Troubleshoot system-related problems.
  • Stay current in operating systems/software analysis and technological developments.
  • Recommend future direction or projects to management.
  • Provide expertise and direction in the development or modification of software programs and applications.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of related experience in IT and/or software development.
  • 5 years of IT and/or software experience required.
  • DOD 8570 IAT Level II certification required (Level III preferred).
  • Experience with Kubernetes and agile development teams.
  • In-depth understanding of DevOps methodologies.
  • Experience with Continuous Integration tools such as Concourse, Spinnaker, Jenkins, Bamboo, or TeamCity.
  • Experience in VMware vSphere / ESXi / NSX-T.
  • Experience with networking technologies (e.g., load balancing, DNS, SSL, firewalls, NAT, SDN).
  • Proficient in using Git and release management practices.
  • Experience supporting production systems using Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices.
  • Excellent communication and briefing skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, and OpenStack.
  • Experience with automation/orchestration tools like Chef, Ansible, BOSH.
  • Experience with platform as a service products such as Cloud Foundry, Heroku, or Elastic Beanstalk.
  • Understanding of systems monitoring and analytics tools (e.g., Prometheus, New Relic, Splunk).
  • Background in Windows deployment and automation technologies.
  • Experience with databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle) and messaging middleware technologies (e.g., RabbitMQ).
