About the position

As a DevOps Engineer at GDIT, you will be tasked with delivering innovative solutions to complex problems, specifically tailored to meet the unique requirements of our clients. Your role will focus on application development, ensuring that the end-user experience is prioritized while also fostering your own career growth. You will be joining a team that supports USSOCOM at Fort Liberty, NC, where your contributions will help ensure that today is safe and tomorrow is smarter. In this position, you will be responsible for managing distributed and managed services, automating the installation, configuration, and maintenance of platform services. You will also oversee system tuning for reliability and efficiency, guide and manage software releases for new features, and support users through consolidation. Your responsibilities will occasionally include performing administrative operations on server hardware and software, ensuring system security, troubleshooting system-related problems, and remaining current with operating systems and software analysis. You will provide expertise in the development or modification of software programs and applications to enhance operating systems, and you will recommend future project directions to management. To succeed in this role, you will need a strong foundation in IT and software, with at least 5 years of relevant experience. You will be required to hold a DOD 8570 IAT Level II certification (Level III preferred) and have experience with Kubernetes, agile development teams, and DevOps methodologies. Your technical skills should include familiarity with Continuous Integration tools, VMware technologies, networking, Git, and Site Reliability Engineering practices. Excellent communication skills and a solid work ethic are essential, as you will be providing technical guidance and leadership to less experienced engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Automate the installation, configuration, and maintenance of platform services.
  • Manage system tuning for reliability and efficiency.
  • Guide and manage software releases for new features.
  • Support users through consolidation.
  • Perform administrative operations on server hardware and software as needed.
  • Ensure system security and execute practices and procedures.
  • Troubleshoot system-related problems.
  • Remain current in operating systems/software analysis and technological developments.
  • Provide expertise and direction in the development or modification of software programs and applications.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of related experience in IT and/or software development.
  • Active Secret clearance required to start and must be able to obtain TS/SCI clearance.
  • DOD 8570 IAT Level II required (Level III preferred).
  • Experience with Kubernetes and agile development teams.
  • In-depth understanding of DevOps methodologies.
  • Experience with Continuous Integration tools such as Concourse, Spinnaker, Jenkins, Bamboo, or TeamCity.
  • Experience in VMware vSphere / ESXi / NSX-T.
  • Familiarity with networking technologies (e.g., load balancing, DNS, SSL, firewalls, NAT, SDN).
  • Proficient in using Git and release management practices.
  • Experience supporting production systems using Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, and OpenStack.
  • Familiarity with automation/orchestration tools such as Chef, Ansible, BOSH.
  • Experience with platform as a service products like Cloud Foundry, Heroku, or Elastic Beanstalk.
  • Understanding of systems monitoring, alerting, and analytics tools (e.g., Prometheus, New Relic, Splunk).
  • Background in Windows deployment and automation technologies.
  • Experience with databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle) and messaging middleware technologies (e.g., RabbitMQ).
