About the position

The DevOps Engineer role at DataDirect Networks (DDN) is a pivotal position focused on enhancing and automating infrastructure to support the development of high-performance data storage solutions. This position emphasizes reliability, scalability, and security, contributing to the company's leadership in AI and multi-cloud data management. The role involves both remote work and on-site responsibilities for larger data center projects, making it essential for the candidate to have a strong background in DevOps practices and tools.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and support infrastructure consisting of bare-metal servers and VMs, ensuring seamless functionality and performance.
  • Maintain computer networks including switches, VPNs, routers and other physical hardware.
  • Manage and optimize a suite of tools and applications for build, artifact hosting, testing, and reporting.
  • Automate configuration and provisioning of infrastructure for development, build, and test infrastructure.
  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines, streamlining delivery in multiple environments from build through deployment.
  • Develop solutions for log analysis and reporting.
  • Automate the provisioning of bare-metal servers, VMs, and containers for testing.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues with infrastructure, builds, pipelines, and deployments, focusing on stability and throughput.
  • Troubleshoot hardware and cabling issues on-premises in the Colorado Springs Lab as needed.
  • Respond promptly to engineering requests and resolve time-sensitive issues as they arise.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in CS or related technical field with a minimum of 5+ years of relevant industry experience.
  • Deep proficiency with Linux systems and command-line tools.
  • Strong scripting and automation skills with Bash, Python.
  • Programming experience with Go or Rust (Prefer Rust).
  • Experience with build automation (Make, CMake) and dependency management.
  • Knowledge of version control best practices (Git).
  • Experience with developing and maintaining CI pipelines with Jenkins and GitHub Actions.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform.
  • Experience with configuration management tools (Chef or similar).

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Familiarity with container orchestration tools (Kubernetes, Docker).
  • Knowledge of monitoring and logging tools (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack).
