About the position

The DevOps Engineer II at One Call Medical, Inc. plays a crucial role in automating and enhancing the build and deployment processes, as well as managing the public and private cloud infrastructure. The engineer will work under light supervision, handling intermediate issues and collaborating with both application development and operational infrastructure teams. This role requires a minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in a technical discipline, showcasing a working to expert knowledge of DevOps practices and principles. In this position, the engineer will troubleshoot code, assist in resolving coding issues, and coordinate the release of new or revised software or systems. They will utilize Application Performance Monitoring (APM) tools to monitor production systems, address production issues, and implement performance improvements. The engineer will also be responsible for driving automation and containerization strategies, ensuring that pre-production environments are effectively built and managed. A significant aspect of the role involves planning, designing, testing, and delivering applications and infrastructure using a Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) model. The DevOps Engineer II will engage with information security to enhance the CI/CD framework with DevSecOps practices, enforce quality controls, and document services and processes. The role demands familiarity with IT security practices, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders. The work environment may vary, with responsibilities that can be performed in both office and home settings, requiring flexibility and adaptability to different work conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoots code and assists with the resolution of coding issues.
  • Serves as a liaison between application development teams and operational infrastructure teams, integrating the full software deployment lifecycle.
  • Reviews application requirements and anticipates system needs to ensure availability and scalability of systems.
  • Coordinates release of new or revised software or systems and monitors performance.
  • Monitors production systems using APM and other tools; remediates production issues and implements performance/cost improvements.
  • Identifies capacity and performance issues to ensure SLAs are met.
  • Ensures pre-production environments are built and managed.
  • Drives DevOps automation and containerization strategies that align with DevOps principles and standards.
  • Plans, designs, tests, and delivers applications and infrastructure using Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) model.
  • Designs and builds pipelines, automation, containers, and Infrastructure as Code for enterprise applications.
  • Implements standards and best practices for the CI/CD framework.
  • Engages with information security to augment the CI/CD framework with DevSecOps and standardized security tools and controls.
  • Enforces quality controls and gates to the build, test, and deploy process while establishing Definition of Ready and Definition of Done to ensure quality of delivery.
  • Collaborates on and provides input into the CICD roadmap, identifying gaps and dependencies.
  • Performs DevOps health assessment on existing pipelines, identifying gaps and recommendations.
  • Documents services and processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in technical discipline or related field, or equivalent combination of education, training, or work experience.
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in a technical discipline or related field.
  • Must have experience with Microsoft Azure and scripting.
  • Experience with software development and supporting developers.
  • Experience with one or more development languages, such as Java, Python, Go, JavaScript, C++, or similar.
  • Experience with 'on-premises to cloud' migrations or IT transformations.
  • Ability to communicate ideas both verbally and in written form in a clear, concise, and professional manner.
  • Knowledge of basic IT technologies (i.e., operating systems, network devices, software development, and architecture).
  • Strong debugging and problem-solving skills.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to understand and apply technical concepts.
  • Team skills, including the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Familiarity with standard IT security practices such as identity and access management, data protection, encryption, certificate, and key management.
