About the position

The DevOps Engineer III / Cloud position at Sierra Nevada Corporation involves designing and implementing cloud-native applications using technologies such as AWS, Kubernetes, and Docker. The role is crucial in enhancing battlefield communication for military and coalition partners by developing scalable applications and microservices. The engineer will work within an Agile team to deliver operational capabilities and ensure high-quality software solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implementation of microservices
  • Refactoring legacy and traditional monolithic applications into microservices and containerized architectures
  • Work as part of a larger Agile software development team to rapidly provide operational capabilities to the field
  • Elicit, derive, and document software and/or system requirements to meet internal or external customer specifications
  • Define software and/or system architecture, design software modules, and produce associated documentation per corporate or customer standards
  • Write and test software modules and integrate with other software and/or hardware components
  • Remain up to date with the latest related trends and technologies

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field with typically 6 or more years of relevant experience
  • 5+ years of software development experience with at least one object-oriented language such as Java, Python, C#, C++, or Go
  • Demonstrated implementation of microservices, container, and cloud-native application development
  • Hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and/or Openshift
  • Experience working with multiple cloud vendors
  • Experience with managed Kubernetes services, Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) and Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS)
  • Demonstrated experience with developer tools such as GitHub and on-prem Azure DevOps
  • Significant experience with Linux
  • Strong understanding and experience of release engineering, CI and CD pipelines
  • Strong Agile experience working in Scrum and/or Kanban models
  • Proven track record of delivering high quality and consistent systems and environments for development teams
  • Experience in project definition
  • Ability to rapidly work with minimal supervision on projects involving both small and large teams
  • Ability to work in a highly collaborative, fast-paced environment
  • Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret U.S. Security Clearance is required
