About the position

The DevOps Engineer at Northern Trust will focus on regulatory, production resiliency, and cash program initiatives, delivering solutions within Cash Systems. This role involves project planning, software development, unit testing, and release management, while also identifying opportunities for continuous improvement and ensuring the effectiveness of production systems through strong stakeholder communication and support.

Responsibilities

  • Work on regulatory, production resiliency, and cash program initiatives.
  • Participate in project planning by identifying tasks, issues, and risks.
  • Develop and unit test software to meet specified requirements.
  • Participate in Release Management, including production install planning and deployment.
  • Identify continuous improvement opportunities to reduce manual effort and automate tasks.
  • Ensure non-functional requirements are planned and designed.
  • Develop and maintain relationships and communication with global stakeholders and IT teams.
  • Provide level three support to ensure the availability and accuracy of production systems.
  • Identify and set up monitors using tools like Dynatrace and SiteScope.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of experience in Java/J2EE technologies.
  • Strong expertise in JAVA 8, J2EE, RESTful interfaces, Spring Boot, Oracle PL/SQL, JMS, PCF, Azure Cloud.
  • Experience with Spring Integration, GIT, Maven, Gradle, XSLT, XQuery, Shell scripting, and Terraform.
  • Knowledge of REACT framework.
  • Experience with IBM MQ, Solace, Kafka.
  • Ability to write cost-effective and fine-tune Oracle PL/SQL queries.
  • Good working knowledge of XML and JSON technologies.
  • Familiarity with Agile Methodology and Scrum process for software development.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • Analytical skills with a structured approach to statistics and trend analysis.

Nice-to-haves

  • Understanding of cloud architectures and Pivotal Cloud Foundry.
  • Experience with Service Now (IT Service Management tool) and Dynatrace monitoring tool.
  • Flexibility for upskilling to new tech stacks.
