About the position

VAE, Inc. is seeking a mid-level DevOps Software Engineer to join our team working on the Army Global Unified Network (AGUN) - Increment 1 (INC1) program. This program is a critical mission provider responsible for maintaining connectivity for the Army through global network modernization projects. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of leading, problem-solving, and delivering exceptional results as part of a high-performing team in a fast-paced environment. In this role, you will have the opportunity to build robust systems and software utilizing cloud capabilities to support a complex program. As a DevOps Engineer, you will work within a DevOps framework and participate in or direct major deliverables throughout all aspects of the software development lifecycle. This includes scope and work estimation, architecture and design, coding, unit testing, and operations network services. You will be responsible for creating and implementing processes and tools to deliver an automated, CI/CD pipeline-based DevSecOps system capable of supporting VM and container applications for AGUN SDN Capabilities and Network Management. Your responsibilities will also include developing and maintaining sound version control best practices-based Configuration Management (CM) systems, identifying processes that can be streamlined and automated, and assisting with support and operations as necessary. You will coordinate closely with team members, Product Owners, and Scrum Masters to ensure alignment of User Stories and implementation to customer use cases. Additionally, you will document and perform systems software development, including security artifacts, testing artifacts, and deployment of build artifacts across different environments leveraging GitOps constructs. This position requires excellent communication skills to convey key project data to team members and foster team cohesion and effectiveness. The successful candidate will have a Bachelor's degree and 4-8 years of relevant experience or a Master's degree with 2-6 years of related experience, along with an active Secret clearance preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Create and implement processes and tools for an automated, CI/CD pipeline based DevSecOps system.
  • Support complex software and hardware systems' rapid development, security, testing, validation, and fielding.
  • Develop and maintain version control best practices-based CM systems (GIT).
  • Develop, prototype, and deploy solutions within Commercial Cloud Solutions.
  • Identify processes and capabilities that can be streamlined and automated.
  • Assist with support and operations as necessary.
  • Create and implement design and maintenance web service infrastructure and deployments.
  • Solve higher level and larger scope technical problems.
  • Coordinate closely with team members, Product Owners, and Scrum Masters for User Story alignment.
  • Participate in all team ceremonies including planning, grooming, product demonstration, and retrospectives.
  • Document and perform systems software development, including security and testing artifacts.
  • Communicate key project data to team members to build cohesion and effectiveness.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and 4 - 8 years of prior relevant experience or Masters with 2 - 6 years of related experience.
  • Demonstrated experience working within the Agile framework.
  • Active Secret clearance preferred.
  • 8570 IAT II and Operating System certification.
  • Ability to automate release deployments across various environments using scripting languages and automation toolkits.
  • Proficient with DevOps or Site Reliability Engineering methodologies.
  • Holistic view of service development and deployment architecture.
  • Understanding of SLA requirements and high availability architectures.
  • Set up and configure a continuous integration environment using Configuration Management, containerization, and Kubernetes.
  • Experience working cross-functionally across multiple teams.
  • Prior experience working within Army's IT infrastructure.
  • Direct experience with API integrations between applications.
  • Experience managing/monitoring AWS cloud and virtualized servers in a PaaS environment.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and technical troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience using Kibana for reporting.
  • Knowledge of security practices, networking protocols, firewalls, and zero trust Security.
  • Solid understanding of Network Management and Monitoring.
