About the position

The DevSecOps & CI/CD Research Engineer position at The Pennsylvania State University involves driving technical discussions and supporting research for Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) platforms with a focus on DevSecOps and Department of Defense (DoD) security requirements. The role is designed for experienced professionals who can design secure automation solutions, manage CI/CD pipelines, and improve systems through various technologies. This position offers opportunities for mentorship and project management at different professional levels, depending on the candidate's experience and qualifications.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement secure automation solutions for development, testing, and production environments
  • Manage continuous integration and delivery pipeline to maximize efficiency
  • Improve systems through updates and optimizations using various technologies
  • Present program overviews, proposals, and technical briefings at internal and external events
  • Coordinate with sponsors and team members to identify risks, issues, requirements, and design solutions for project-level activity on a day to day basis

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in an Engineering or Science discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Broad knowledge of CI/CD, DevSecOps, Cloud and the ability to leverage that knowledge in technical implementation projects
  • Strong understanding of security concepts and best practices
  • Skilled in Platform management e.g. Docker, Kubernetes, and microservices architecture
  • Active DoD TS/SCI clearance
  • Minimum DoD 8570 IAT II Baseline Certification (e.g. Security+ce, GSEC, SSCP)

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience automating DevSecOps across multiple disconnected environments
  • Managing source code, dependencies, and artifacts with GitLab Ultimate
  • Executing DevSecOps CI/CD with GitLab Ultimate
  • Establishing provisioning tools including Terraform, Puppet, Ansible, or related frameworks
  • Direct Software Development experience in Python, Java, C
