About the position

The DevSecOps Research and Development Engineer position at Penn State's Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) involves designing and implementing secure automation solutions, managing continuous integration and delivery pipelines, and improving systems through updates and optimizations. The role requires strong technical skills in Linux-based infrastructures and scripting, along with the ability to communicate effectively and work independently. This position is open to candidates at multiple levels based on their education and experience.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement secure automation solutions for development, testing, and production environments
• Manage continuous integration and delivery pipeline to maximize efficiency
• Improve systems through updates and optimizations using various technologies
• Present program overviews, proposals, and technical briefings at internal and external events
• Coordinate with sponsors and team members to identify risks, issues, requirements, and design solutions for project-level activity on a day-to-day basis

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in an Engineering or Science discipline
• Strong experience with Linux-based infrastructures and Linux/Unix administration
• Knowledge of scripting languages such as Python, Bash, and Ansible
• Experience with version control software such as Git
• Experience with open-source technologies and cloud services such as Docker and Kubernetes
• Experience with logging, search, and/or aggregation tools such as Splunk, Elastic, or Prometheus
• Stellar troubleshooting skills
• Strong communication skills
• Well-organized and independent

Nice-to-haves

• Working with Atlassian products (JIRA, Bitbucket, Confluence)
• Working knowledge in Java, C/C++, and Matlab
• Familiarity with VMWare virtualization tools
• Familiarity with GitLab
• Experience with databases such as SQL, PostgreSQL, and MySQL
