About the position

The Developer III (Java) position at Expeditors is a full-time role focused on enhancing the IS Operational Experience Portfolio. This role involves working on a collaborative project team to design and produce enterprise-scale business systems that support logistics operations. The position emphasizes the development of a proprietary web application for short haul truck dispatches, contributing to the overall efficiency and functionality of the company's software systems.

Responsibilities

  • Play a key role on a collaborative project team responsible for the design and production of mission-critical, enterprise-scale business systems.
  • Translate requirements into system design specifications and implement systems throughout the entire software development life cycle.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of the logistics business domain.
  • Maintain awareness of evolving technologies in use by other teams at Expeditors and in the technology industry as a whole.
  • Influence the design and technical direction of the system.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field of study, or equivalent experience.
  • Robust Java coding abilities.
  • At least 5 years in a software development role in a team environment.
  • Experience with web development.
  • Experience with Angular, Bootstrap and/or similar front-end frameworks.
  • Spring, Spring Boot, and dependency injection experience.
  • Experience with IntelliJ, Maven, GitLab or Github, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with object-oriented analysis and design.
  • Relational database concepts and SQL knowledge.
  • Experience with RESTful APIs.
  • Customer service-oriented attitude and great time-management skills.
  • Ability to communicate across IT and Business roles.
  • Experience mentoring and/or coaching others in a team environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience developing in and provisioning within a Cloud infrastructure.
  • Agile/SAFe leadership experience including continuous improvement of team processes.
  • Web-based and service-based architectures and deployment paradigms.
  • Experience with Data Fabric or Data Lake repositories and integrations.
  • Operating systems including Linux, preferably RHEL8.
  • Experience with Event Driven Architecture, Domain Driven Design, CQRS, Kafka.
